David Lesondak. Structural Integrator & Fascial Specialist Practitioner, speaker and educator

How Does It Work?

David Lesondak

Just as no one part of your body functions in isolation, no one part malfunctions in isolation. Your body  is designed to work as an integrated whole.

At your first session, David will take a thorough medical, accident and injury history as well as your "pain story". What do you feel like in the morning? When is your pain, discomfort or performance issue(s) most aggravated? and so on…

Then there will be a complete postural and movement assessment to better determine your overall patterns and specifically assess which "parts" of you are most involved. Your first treatment with then proceed, specifically designed to give you a difference you will feel before you leave.

What Does It Feel Like?

David Lesondak

Some describe SI as feeling "deeper than a deep tissue massage". While much of what David does is hands-on it doesn't feels like massage and just because its deep don't mean it has to hurt, or cause new pain.

It does consist of slow, alternately superficial and deep, fascial and myofascial manipulations combined with slow, active movement or stretching on your part.

Your fascia is full of sensory nerve endings that are responsible for a wide range of sensations. As such, the experience of what it feels like can vary from person to person. David will work with you to find the appropriate  application that gets productive results and is within your comfort level.

How Long Does it Take?

David Lesondak

While many people have a noticeable result after the first treatment most people get the best results by undertaking 10-12 treatments over a 4 month period. David will tailor the specific number of treatments and their sequencing to help you achieve optimum results.

Treatments are 50-60 minutes in length, but it is recommended that you allow 90 minutes for your first session if possible.

For those of you who may be experiencing ongoing symptoms from a severe trauma, injury, illness or disease, moor frequent visits may be indicated. Please feel free to talk with David before you come in if this is a concern for you.

How Long Does it Last?

David Lesondak

While the changes in symptoms can vary from session to session, most people notice long lasting results after their initial number of treatments have ended. They are more resilient, pain free and better able to cope with the stressors, physical and otherwise, of daily life.

After your treatments are finished, your fascia and connective tissues will continue to grow and adapt to the "new you", so it is recommended for you to come back for a check up in 6 months.  At this time some people decide to embark on a series of advanced sessions (usually 3-5, every other week) to meet their evolving needs and goals, or take them to a whole new level.

In the minority are those with very strenuous and/or demanding lives, they often find that a tune-up every 4-6 weeks allows them to better sustain their results.

Is This Like Rolfing?

David Lesondak

Rolfing is a brand name of Structural Integration, like Kleenex is a brand name of tissue. David went to Kinesis for his SI training, but continues to evolve his approaches based on his additional training at the Barral Institute, Fascial Fitness, and well as being exposed to the latest in research and his life-long study of yoga.

What Should I Wear?

David Lesondak

Since this process involves visual assessments and frequent changes of position (not to mention "test driving" the results during the treatment, comfortable underwear, loose fitting shorts and 2 piece swim suits are recommended. FOr the ladies camisoles and tankinis are also recommended over sports bras which can often be too tight, or in the case of racer backs cover up areas that need to be treated.

Does Insurance Cover Your Treatments?

David Lesondak

If you have a Health Savings Account, or a Medical Savings Account then your treatments are covered. There will be no need for a certificate of medical necessity. just book your appointment and come in.

Workers Compensation and auto insurance are evaluated on a case-by-case basis and in some situations may be covered.  A prescription will be necessary.

Most health insurances do not as yet cover these kinds of treatments. However some insurances may provide a reimbursement, check with your provider. Also depending on your tax bracket, you may be able to deduct the cost of your treatments as a medical expense.
